Rare is the day when you don’t hear someone talk about food…
Living and sharing my life with a chef makes my guilty pleasure oh so very guilty. Which is why I’ve decided to blog about food, oh glorious food! and perhaps a little about travelling (really only because that’s pretty much where my salary goes…) But for the sake of credibility, I will pretend like it’s not and justify it by the following: What is food without learning about where it comes from, how we cook /prepare a dish and the reason behind the choice of its ingredients?!?
To say the least, last night, my meal apparently made me travel through the Americas. With a black quinoa crusted skate, accompanied with sautéed greens, a warm gumbo and tomato salsa, with a drizzle of salsa verde, how can you not say “Delish!”! you can only imagine how gorgeous the plate looked with all the different colors and textures! And that is was!
So why is this meal an American journey you ask? Well, for those who didn’t know like me, quinoa is a grain-like crop grown primarily for its edible seeds, which we cultivate in the Andean region of Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador. The gumbos originated from New Orleans, Louisiana, before being cultivated by the French and used in the classic bouillabaisse. And when gumbos (okra) are mixed in with tomatoes, they become a classical Cajun or Creole meal… Finally, salsa verde…must I really go there? Mexico!
No desert, but after a glass of a very mineral Chilean white wine (and I am sorry because I am usually good with names, but so happens i forgot this one…) who needs a desert!
